It was forgotten for decades. Battered by the storm of time, the castle of Carneville (Manche) comes back to life thanks to Guillaume Garbe. His childhood dream came true in 2012, when he bought a magnificent house from the 18th century. He can count on the help of eight volunteers to realize his project. Guillaume traded his house with the previous owner and invested all his savings.

He did not think of parting with it, not even when rot destroyed its frame, which he had to completely restore for a million euros, not even when a storm broke thirty panes of the castle’s 73 windows. These difficult times strengthened the bonds between volunteers and squires. “We definitely want to help him”confides Juliette Lowagie.

An old trawler in Calvados

In Port-en-Bessin (Calvados), an old trawler is being renovated. It is the last trace of the sailing fishing tradition in Normandy. Built in 1949, it was abandoned for 15 years. It was bought by Patrick Brévune in the town hall for a symbolic euro. “We want to save a ship that has history. There are no more ships like that.”, assures. Twenty-five volunteers work on the construction site.
