The city of Cannes announced in a press release on Tuesday, April 23 that it will experiment with video surveillance powered by artificial intelligence, reports France Bleu Azur. The City Hall explains that the video security cameras already installed around the Palais des Festivals will be connected to algorithms and will use artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze behavior. Operators of the city’s Urban Protection Center (CPU) will thus be able to monitor attitudes or events remotely. “suspicious or risky, defined by law”explains the city of Cannes.

CPU agents will use a total of 17 cameras located around the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. It will enable the detection of left packages, the presence or use of weapons, non-compliance with the direction of traffic, crossing or presence in a sensitive or prohibited area, a person on the ground, mass movement, excessive crowding or even the start of a fire.

The 77th edition of the Cannes International Film Festival will take place from May 14 to 25. In total, the city of Cannes has 884 cameras installed throughout the city.
