On Saturday, the Russian won the general standings ahead of all the favorites. The yellow jersey stays on Brandon McNulty’s shoulders for a few seconds.
The favorites are captured again. After the victory of Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) on Friday, Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora-hansgrohe) won on the summit of Madonna d’Utelle (Alpes-Maritimes), on Saturday 9 March in the 7th stage Paris-Nice, shortened to 104 km due to severe weather conditions. Leaders have made their mark a long time ago. Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) tried to attack after the good work of his assistant Ilan Van Wilder, but failed to win over the other favourites. The Belgian is 4th in the general standings, 36 seconds behind the yellow shirt. Primoz Roglic, teammate of today’s winner, is still 1’21” behind the leader.
McNulty still in yellow
Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates), lost in the last hectometres of the final climb, saved his yellow jersey ahead of his final arrival in Nice. Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a bike) insisted at the front of the group of favorites to try to take the lead in the general classification, but in the end he failed four seconds behind his American compatriot. The first Frenchman, Aurélien Paret-Peintre (Decathlon-AG2R), wins three places in the general classification (9th), 1’53” behind the yellow jersey. Sunday, the eighth and final stage around Nice will offer terrain suitable for attacks, with five climbs recorded in less than 110 kilometers of the race.
