XXL pictures

Launched in 2018 in Naples (Italy), exhibition Van Gogh, Immersive Experience offers a journey into the heart of more than 300 works of the famous Dutch painter. Sketches, drawings and pictures in motion to see or examine on almost 2000 m2. The first part offers a revelation of the powerful elements of the artist’s life, and then the viewer is invited to lie down in deckchairs for a sound and light show.

An explosion of XXL pictures on the floor and walls. “We are in the most interesting room of the exhibition where people can discover a 360-degree projection through video mapping technology, around twenty projectors bringing the artist’s different works to life.” says Luc Faure, exhibition manager. Some pictures, e.g Starry night painted in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, they are falling apart. This allows you to see details that are usually not visible in a classic exhibition. “In Starry Night we can find a Provençal landscape, hills in the background, a village in the foreground, cypresses rising to the left and a sky very characteristic of the works of Vincent Van Gogh” explains Luc Faure.

Eight works highlighted by virtual reality

After thinking about it, it’s time to put it into practice with virtual reality. Equipped with helmets, visitors wander through eight of the painter’s famous works, incl “Van Gogh’s Room in Arles”. A picturesque adventure praised by the public. “We are in the center of the pictures. We feel a lot of things.” responds Philippe, a visitor. “I had the impression that I was completely immersed and at the same time I didn’t know where to turn” adds Nathalie.

And finally, those who wish can put themselves in the shoes of Vincent Van Gogh by creating their own images that will be projected onto the walls. The American television channel CNN ranked it among the 12 best immersive experiences in the world, and the exhibition is a success wherever it goes. In order to hope to see him, we recommend that you reserve your seats.
